Atchison County law enforcement authorities responded to a boating accident on the Missouri River on September 1st. According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson, the incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. near the 200 block of River Road.
A small fishing boat traveling southbound collided with a northbound barge. Both occupants of the vessel, Marvin L. Reese (50) and Chandler A. Reese (21), were ejected from the boat and subsequently rescued.
Following an investigation conducted by Kansas Wildlife and Parks officers, Marvin Reese was arrested on charges of operating a watercraft under the influence. The fishing boat was recovered downstream.
