Authorities in Sedgwick County are currently conducting an investigation into allegations of child abuse involving the father of a Kansas teenager. The inquiry was initiated following a report received on Monday evening, which prompted police to respond to a local hospital concerning a 13-year-old boy. According to Wichita Police Officer Kris Gupilan, the investigation identified the boy’s father, 39-year-old Dallas L. Ellis, as the primary suspect in the case.
In an effort to apprehend Ellis, law enforcement officers proceeded to the 11000 block of W. Jennie Circle in Wichita. Upon their arrival, Ellis refused to comply with requests to leave the residence. Consequently, police negotiators and a SWAT team were called to the scene to facilitate a peaceful resolution. After several hours of negotiation, Ellis surrendered to the authorities without further incident and was taken into custody.
Following his arrest, Ellis was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, facing charges that include abuse of a child and reckless great bodily harm, specifically related to head trauma and potential permanent disability or disfigurement. According to the jail arrest report, he was able to secure his release on bond later that afternoon. The case is now set to be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for further legal proceedings.
