Axelton Hill Road Fire – Large fire that started on Friday night in Pottawatomie county and spotted across the river bed into Riley County north and east of Randolph. Tanker 95 is currently dropping water on the west side of the river bed cooling hot spots to allow ground resources opportunity to better protect homes in the area. Tanker 802 and Tanker 803 will be working the same fire on the east side. KFS staff, Engine 64, 461, USFWS personnel, Riley County Fire District #1 and KDWP are engaged on the Axelton Hill Road Fire today.
Big Blue 2 Fire – Large fire burning in Marshall County south of Blue Rapids on both sides of the river bed. Currently the fire is holding south of highway 9. Kansas National Guard Black Hawks will be assisting with suppression of this fire when winds allow. KFS DFMO Haverkamp and Taskforeces from Johnson County, Wichita, and Lyon County are currently assisting local resources in Marshall County.
A Temporary Flight Restriction is place approximately from Randolph to Blue Rapids along the river channel. Fixed wing aircraft will be refilling in Manhattan Regional Airport with Manhattan Fire Department assisting.
