Wichita Police Continue Search for Homicide Suspect Brent Cruz

WICHITA, KS – July 14, 2025 – The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is renewing its plea to the public for information regarding the whereabouts of 38-year-old Brent Cruz, who is wanted in connection with a 2022 homicide investigation and failed to appear for his trial.

Inmate Dies at Hutchinson Correctional Facility

Chancellor Copenhaver, a 33-year-old inmate at Hutchinson Correctional Facility, died on December 4, 2024. Staff found him unresponsive in his cell despite attempts to revive him. Serving a 121-month sentence for serious crimes, his death will be investigated by the Kansas Department of Corrections and an independent autopsy will follow.

Kansas Launches First Substance Use Recovery Unit in Prisons

Governor Laura Kelly announced the opening of Kansas' first substance use recovery/work release unit at the East Campus in Lansing.
