Wichita Detective Seriously Injured Arresting Stolen Vehicle Suspect

WICHITA, KS – A routine stolen vehicle recovery turned violent Tuesday morning, leaving a Wichita Police detective with serious facial injuries and an 18-year-old suspect in custody.

The incident began around 7:10 a.m. when a light blue Mercedes-Benz C300 was reported stolen after being left running to warm up. A detective quickly located the vehicle at a motel in the 1400 block of North Broadway.

The Confrontation

When patrol officers arrived to assist with a traffic stop, the situation escalated. Police report that the suspect, identified as Dayten E. Pollard, resisted arrest. During the ensuing struggle:

  • A detective sustained a serious injury to his face.
  • EMS transported the injured detective to a local hospital.
  • Authorities confirmed the injury is non-life-threatening.

Charges Filed

Pollard was arrested at the scene and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He faces several requested charges, including:

  • Aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer
  • Battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Felony theft
  • Resisting an officer
