WICHITA – Tasha Diane Dillard, 25, of Wichita, accused in the March death of 7-year-old Davion Gunter, waived her preliminary hearing in Sedgwick County court on Wednesday. The case will now proceed directly to arraignment at a later date, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.
Dillard faces charges of first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated endangering a child. She remains in custody on a $500,000 bond.
The charges stem from an incident on a Sunday afternoon in March, when Wichita police responded to a shooting call at an apartment in the 3700 block of E Ross Parkway. According to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses, the caller reported a shooting and a child bleeding.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Davion Gunter suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
At the scene, officers found seven other children and multiple adults. Wichita Police homicide investigators and the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit promptly responded, conducting interviews and gathering evidence. As a result of their investigation, Dillard was taken into custody, and the children present were placed in protective care.
