McPherson County, KS – Authorities are investigating the cause of a barn fire that resulted in the deaths of two horses early Monday morning in McPherson County.
The McPherson Fire Department received a dispatch call just after 7:30 a.m. reporting a fire in the vicinity of the intersection of 17th Avenue and Eisenhower Road.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered a small barn that was fully engulfed in flames. The intense heat had caused the structure to partially collapse, with the roof falling inward.
According to reports, two horses that were located near the burning barn were successfully moved to safety by bystanders and the property owners. These individuals worked to keep the animals cool while awaiting the arrival of firefighters. Tragically, two other horses that were inside the barn were unable to escape the blaze and died.
At this stage of the investigation, authorities do not suspect any foul play in connection with the fire. Investigators are continuing their work to determine the exact cause of the incident.
