Franklin County Authorities Investigate Shooting Incident

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Kan. — Law enforcement is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Monday in Franklin County, Kansas.

Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a physical altercation at a residence outside Pomona. The altercation escalated, resulting in a firearm being discharged into a vehicle.

The incident began as a family dispute in the 300 block of Georgia Road. An argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation that resulted in injuries to one individual.

As the injured individual attempted to leave the scene in a vehicle, 53-year-old Marion “Gene” Ferris of Richmond allegedly fired a shot at the vehicle, striking a tire. Three people, including a 3-year-old child, were in the vehicle at the time.

While injuries were reported, they were not related to the gunshot.

Deputies located Ferris at his residence in Richmond. He initially refused to exit the home but was later arrested after attempting to flee.

Ferris is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal threat, criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to property, felony interference with law enforcement, and aggravated child endangerment.
