Marshall Co. Emergency Management Releases Winter Storm Preparedness Tips

To minimize risks during the anticipated winter storm this weekend, please:

  • Limit travel to essential trips only.
  • If travel is unavoidable:
    • Drive slowly and cautiously.
    • Maintain ample following distance.
    • Carry emergency supplies in your vehicle (blankets, water, non-perishable food).
  • In case of stranding:
    • Contact Dispatch at 785-562-3141 ONLY if stranded.
    • If leaving your vehicle: Notify Dispatch immediately with your location, reason for leaving, and intended destination. This assists first responders.
    • 911 is for emergencies only.
  • Check road conditions by calling 511.
  • Expect longer response times due to severe weather conditions.
  • Be patient with snowplow crews as they work to clear roads.
  • Refrain from unnecessary travel to assess road conditions.
