Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged three homes in Topeka on Monday night.
Fire crews responded to a call at 406 SW Clay Street just after 11:30 PM. Arriving on the scene, they found a two-story house engulfed in flames. No one was home at the time, and there were no injuries reported.
The fire is believed to have started on the second floor of the house. The heat from the fire caused significant damage to two neighboring homes. The estimated total damage is $32,500, including $18,500 at the house where the fire originated.
Working smoke detectors were not present in the house where the fire started.
