Introducing SuperStar Country 102-5 & 1530 AM KQNK

NORTON, KAN. – On April 6, 1964, the Federal Communications Commission in Washington D.C. granted the Norton Broadcasting Company a commercial broadcast license to operate 1530 AM KNBI to serve northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska. Fast-forward just over 60 years, and Dierking Communications, Inc. is proud to announce a brand-new radio station taking over the 1530 AM and 102.5 FM frequencies, starting next week.

Introducing SuperStar Country 102-5 and 1530 AM KQNK. SuperStar Country 102-5 isn’t your typical country music station, we focus on the biggest stars and icons of country from the 1980s all the way through today. You’ll hear from legendary artists such as Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean as well as new stars of country, such as Warren Zeiders, Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan. You’ll get them in full stereo on 102.5 FM, and in the classic monaural sound of AM radio on 1530 AM. Visit the SuperStar 102-5 website at www.SuperStar1025.com as well.

SuperStar Country 102-5 will be your home for Kansas City Royals baseball, as well as Norton High School Bluejay sports. Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas State University athletics will move to Classic Hits Q-106.7 exclusively.

The current Classic Hits format is scheduled to end on Wednesday, July 17th when engineers will take both KQNK radio stations off-the-air to perform equipment upgrades at our broadcast studios in Norton. Following the upgrade, SuperStar Country 102-5 & 1530 AM will launch, as well as an upgrade Classic Hits Q-106.7.

Dave Delort – Mornings 5a-9a

You and I share a common interest and that’s great country music from the artists, singers and bands we know and love. A little about me, I’m a big sports fan! If it’s football, baseball, hockey, golf or basketball, I’m watching it! I’ve also been known to watch cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter, and swimming in summer. I country dance when I can (don’t worry, you’re still better at it than I am), and I love to share what’s happening in pop-culture and country music with you when I’m on the air. Plus, listen for Quick Play Trivia, and the occasional Dad Joke of The Day!

ChaCha Chavez – Middays 9a-2p

Cha Cha is a 30+ year radio veteran and still has the same love for radio today as she did when since her first shift! Cha Cha loves all genres of music, from pop to hip-hop to country. She loves to hike, bike and snowshoe and loves hanging with Sophia, her 3-legged Chiwawa!

Catfish Hunter – Afternoons 2p-7p

Started my fun-filled Radio life when I was 16 growing up in Colorado! Worked and played at many great radio stations coast to coast. Living one day at a time, with a fresh baked cookie… Okay, and with a coffee and a beer later in the day. But I promise to take my vitamins. And of course, I love my country music! The best there is right?

Ritch Cassidy – Evenings 7p-11p

Since a chance opportunity to sing on the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 5 on a family trip to Music City, Ritch Cassidy has been destined to make country music part of his life. A two-time CMA Award winner, Ritch Cassidy has spent his years in country entertainment interviewing past and present country music icons including George Jones, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Eric Church, Dolly Parton and many more. When not listening to and reading up on the history of country music, Ritch can be found spending time with his wife, their two pups Hickree Mo and Boonie, drawing cartoons and trying to write the perfect country and western song.

Charlie Derek – Overnights 11p-5a (Tue-Saturday)

Charlie Derek has been a successful radio host for many radio stations from coast to coast and is now settled here. He’s covered every genre in his 25+ years in radio and STILL looks forward to being on the radio every day. Thank you for tuning in and making my every day extra special.

With a third of his life holding down a radio gig, Dennis loves to have fun on the air and share tons of life’s experiences. When he’s off mic, he’s into photography as well as audio and visual production that has been seen and heard nationwide. Very happily married, Dennis is graciously tolerated by his beautiful wife.

Andrew Jaye – Mornings 5a-9a

Born and raised originally in Williamstown, WV… Andrew has had the opportunity to “play radio,” for the last 38 years all over the country and he’s now excited to be here to play the best music on the radio! He enjoys the great outdoors when he can but finds his “happy place” to be at home putting a steak on the grill. Andrew is married, with three cats that actually rule over the household.
