A dozen Mumps cases have been reported in Marshall County in the past month, since the outbreak was first reported locally.
Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, and loss of appetite, which advance to swollen salivary glands. Since it is easily spread by talking, coughing, or sneezing, the public is encouraged to stay away from others with the virus. Frequent handwashing is also recommended in controlling spread of the virus to others.
Generally not life threatening, anyone who believes they may have the virus should contact healthcare providers.
