UPDATE: Death investigation at North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is examining the death of a 17-year-old at the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Center. An autopsy revealed accidental death due to combined intoxication from prescribed medications, with contributing factors including cardiomegaly, obesity, and asthma. The Kansas State Child Death Review Board will assess the case.

Inmate Dies at Hutchinson Correctional Facility

Chancellor Copenhaver, a 33-year-old inmate at Hutchinson Correctional Facility, died on December 4, 2024. Staff found him unresponsive in his cell despite attempts to revive him.
