SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — A 39-year-old Wichita man died Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash near K-15 Highway and 55th Street South, according to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash site was discovered just after 9:15 a.m. by a Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) worker. The worker found a Ford F-250 pickup that had collided with a bridge just north of the intersection and reported an apparent ejection.
Deputies, Sedgwick County EMS, and Sedgwick County Fire District 1 responded to the scene, where the driver—the vehicle’s sole occupant—was pronounced dead.
Preliminary Investigation
According to the Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Team, the pickup was traveling south in the 5400 block of South K-15. For reasons currently unknown, the vehicle left the roadway and struck the bridge railing. The force of the impact caused the driver to be ejected from the truck.
Authorities stated that an autopsy and toxicology testing will be conducted to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
