FORT RILEY, Kan. – Fort Riley will host a 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11, to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and the service members and first responders who have served since.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Global War on Terrorism Memorial on Sheridan Avenue. The memorial is a small replica of the World Trade Center towers on a Pentagon-shaped base, inscribed with the names of 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley Soldiers who died in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Fort Riley Garrison Commander Col. Jerry Nunziato will provide remarks. The event will also include representatives from the 1st Infantry Division and local police and fire departments.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony to remember those who perished on that day, as well as the military members and first responders who continue to serve our nation.
