MONTGOMERY COUNTY, KS – July 15, 2025 – A swift response from a Kansas Game Warden and his dedicated K-9 partner led to the successful rescue of a missing elderly woman on Monday afternoon, preventing a potentially dangerous situation amidst scorching temperatures.
Just after 1:00 p.m. on Monday, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office issued a request for assistance from Game Warden Austin and his K-9 partner, Kai, to help locate an elderly woman who had wandered off into a remote section of property. With the heat index soaring above 90 degrees, time was of the essence.
According to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Game Wardens, K-9 Kai was immediately deployed to the area. Within minutes of starting the search, Kai located a track. A short time later, the highly trained K-9 successfully found the missing woman.
Upon discovery, the woman was promptly given water and released into the care of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. K-9 Kai, the hero of the hour, was rewarded for his exceptional work with his favorite toy and a well-deserved nap in the air conditioning.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) did not release any additional details regarding the woman’s identity or condition, but praised the coordinated efforts that led to the safe resolution of the incident. This successful search highlights the invaluable role of K-9 units in emergency response and search and rescue operations, especially in challenging environmental conditions.
