Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 3/3/2025

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular session with Jon Ungerer, chairman, Austin Cline, member, Greg Meyer, member and County Clerk Sandra K. Wilson present. Chris Pannbacker from the Marysville Advocate was present for the meeting.

Commissioner Ungerer called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. The meeting was opened with the flag salute.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to approve the minutes of the 02/24/25 meeting and the agenda for today’s meeting. Unanimous.

Commissioner Cline asked if it were possible to change the meeting time to 9:00 a.m. to allow him adequate time to finish his bus route and make it to the meeting. No action was taken.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to recess the meeting to go to the basement to see the new chairs purchased by the Appraiser’s office. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to reconvene the meeting in the appraiser’s office at 8:41 a.m. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to recess the meeting in the appraiser’s office to return to the Board meeting room at 8:47 a.m. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to reconvene the meeting in the Board meeting room at 8:48 a.m. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig met with the Board.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

    Schwab-Eaton, Manhattan, KS
    For Design Engineering for Bridge Replacement

Greg Meyer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to approve the bid from Schwab Eaton for the bi-annual and fracture critical bridge inspections in the amount of $67,835 this consists of 323 bridges for inspection and 14 bridges for fracture critical inspection. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig reported the recent auction results as follows:

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig said he had a company requesting permits to do 2D seismic testing on the county roads. Previously, seismic testing on our roads and right of ways has been denied. Mr. Craig will relay this information to the company requesting the permits.

Jim Taphorn met with the Board to discuss 15th Road in Center Township and access to his property that is currently landlocked.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to approve the following Home Sewer bills to be paid out the appropriate funds. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to approve 1 abatement in the amount of $98.98. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to approve the extension for Neighborhood Revitalization application for Bruce Koelzer through 12/31/25. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Austin Cline to approve vouchers as presented and issue manual warrants. Unanimous.

Jon Ungerer moved, seconded by Greg Meyer to adjourn the meeting at 10:03 a.m. Unanimous. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Kansas Basketball Secures Top Guard Leroy Blyden Jr. from Toledo

Guard Leroy Blyden Jr. has signed to play basketball at Kansas for his sophomore season after an impressive year at Toledo, where he was named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year.
