Yesterday afternoon, Mitchell County Dispatch received a call regarding an erratic driver located approximately 5 miles west of the city limits, heading towards Beloit. The vehicle in question was identified as a black Toyota pickup truck, which eventually entered the city limits. The on-duty officer for the city at that time observed multiple traffic violations and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver chose to evade the officer by speeding down Independence Street.
A brief pursuit ensued involving officers from both the Beloit Police Department and the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, resulting in the driver crashing his vehicle on Independence Street, south of the railroad tracks, and fleeing on foot. Shortly after, the suspect was apprehended by both law enforcement agencies. Subsequently, a request was made for K9 Zed from the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the search. K9 Zed successfully detected illegal substances within the vehicle.
Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the suspect had an outstanding warrant from Colorado, and the vehicle was reported stolen. Additionally, illegal substances were found in the vehicle, along with a Ruger 357 revolver and a Norinco 1911 style 45 auto, both fully loaded and chambered. The officer noted that during the chase, the driver had been reaching into the passenger side of the seat, where the firearms were located. The suspect now faces local charges in addition to the existing warrant.
