It has been an action-packed weekend for area athletes, marked by dominant performances on the hardwood and hard-fought battles on the wrestling mats. As several teams see their seasons come to a close, others are gearing up for high-stakes Sub-State matchups this week.

Girls Basketball: Sub-State Semi-Finals Kick Off Tonight

The road to the state tournament intensifies tonight, Monday, March 2, with 1A Division II Girls Sub-State semi-final action.

  • Broadcast Feature: Axtell hosts Pike Valley at 6:00 PM. Fans can catch the live play-by-play on KNDY FM 95.5.
  • Other Area Matchups: All tip off at 6:00 PM:
    • Hanover hosts Natoma
    • Linn entertains Tescott

Winners of tonightโ€™s contests will advance to the Saturday semi-finals held in Wakefield. Looking ahead to Tuesday, the 2A Girls take the stage as Valley Heights hosts Doniphan West at 6:00 PM, airing live on KNDY FM 95.5.


Boys Basketball: Victories and Heartbreak

The weekend saw a mix of dominant wins and season-ending losses for area boys’ teams.

Saturday Highlights:

  • Linn defeated Thunder Ridge 56-45.
  • Hanover cruised to an 88-29 victory over Stafford.
  • Axtell dominated Pike Valley 90-14.
  • Blue Valley took down Tescott 64-46.
  • Centraliaโ€™s season ended with a 73-53 loss to Olpe.

Season Recaps:

The Washington County Tigers saw their season end Friday in a narrow 67-64 loss at Valley Falls. In Nebraska Sub-District finals, Southern fell to BDS 64-36 (finishing 9-15), while Diller-Odell lost a heartbreaker to Falls City Sacred Heart 64-62 (finishing 10-12).

Marysville Success: 3A Sub-State and State Wrestling

The Marysville girls’ basketball team is moving on after a convincing 50-29 win over Oskaloosa on Friday. They advance to face Heritage Christian Academy this Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Mid-America Nazarene in Olathe. Coverage will be available on KNDY AM 1570/FM 94.1.

On the wrestling mat, Marysville saw two athletes reach the podium at the 3A State Wrestling tournament on Saturday. Beau Bussman (Boys) and Leighla Schoonmaker (Girls) both earned 6th-place finishes. Keagan Warders and Karleigh Throm also represented the school as state qualifiers.
