Hanover Hospital and Warren Clinic to Enhance Outdoor Space with Community Grants and Donations

Hanover, KS – Exciting developments are underway at Hanover Hospital and Warren Clinic as they announce the receipt of several generous grants and community donations aimed at enhancing outdoor spaces for their long-term care residents. This new initiative includes creating an area that not only benefits the quality of life for the hospitals long term care residents, but also doubles as a vibrant community space.

The funding to bring this vision to life has been bolstered by grants from The Washington County Community Foundation Hanover Community Fund, The Walmart Spark Good Program, and The Hanover Hospital Foundation. Together, these organizations have recognized the crucial need for improved outdoor facilities that foster wellbeing and social interaction amongst the Intermediate Swing Bed residents, which is significantly beneficial to both their physical and mental health.

In addition to these grants, a variety of local businesses have stepped up to support this initiative. Community donations of goods, and services, have poured in from The Farmers Daughter of Hanover, Andy’s Hardware of Hanover, Barbs Farms of Marysville, Walmart of Marysville, Kaw Valley Greenhouses of Marysville and Bomgaars of Beatrice. The continued commitment from local businesses and foundations ensures that the project is not only viable but sustainable. This collaboration highlights the community’s belief in caring for its members, especially the elderly demographic, and showcases how various sectors can come together for a common goal- enhancing the quality of life for these residents, reflecting the community’s spirit. Adrianne Meyer, owner of The Farmers Daughter, jumped towards the opportunity to be involved stating, “as someone who had a great grandparent who spent their final years in the Hanover Long Term Care (ISB) unit, this project and partnership very quickly became near and dear to my heart”. Research has indicated that through nature exposure, individuals can experience improved mood and cognitive function which makes this commitment by all involved, a vital asset for both current and future residents. By fostering an immersive atmosphere of social interaction, this design may even reduce feelings of loneliness and improve overall happiness among those living in long-term care.

“This outdoor space aims to boost resident and community morale through improved accessibility to nature, activities, and events for many individuals involved- all of which are key elements of an impactful project in a community ” Washington County Community Foundation Chairman, and Hanover Native, Dylan Goeckel shared in support of the initiative. “At WCCF, we continue to support those and welcome others to apply for grants who envision the creation of brighter futures for their residents, while also aiming to reinforce the importance of community through fostering a sense of belonging and purpose for all those involved”.
