K-State Women To Face Portland Friday; Listen On KNDY 1570 AM & 94.1 FM

Kansas State’s first round NCAA Tournament game against Portland has been scheduled for Friday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on Classic Country 1570 AM & 94.1 FM KNDY, as well as kndyradio.com and the Classic Country KNDY mobile app. Tickets for the matchup can be purchased at kstatesports.com/tickets or by visiting the K-State Athletics Ticket Office inside Bramlage Coliseum. The ticket office opens at 8:30 a.m. and orders can also be made by calling (800) 221-CATS. All ticket orders will be distributed digitally.

This will be the first meeting between K-State and Portland. The Wildcats’ last encounter with a team from the West Coast Conference was on December 29, 2007, when they defeated Loyola Marymount with a score of 70-47. The winner of the Kansas State-Portland game will advance to face the winner of the No. 5 Colorado-No. 12 Drake matchup on Sunday, March 24. In the Albany 2 region, the top four seeds are No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 LSU, and No. 4 Kansas State.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2020 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.

Governor Kelly Signs Good Samaritan Bill

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed the bipartisan Good Samaritan Law, protecting individuals seeking or providing aid during drug-related medical emergencies from prosecution. The law aims to save lives and assist in recovery from substance use disorders. Additionally, other bills were signed, addressing fentanyl-related issues, penalties, evidentiary requirements, IT consolidation, and school enrollment.

Cloud County Community College is making college more accessible for high school students by waiving fees for dual credit courses starting fall 2024. President Amber Knoettgen emphasizes accessibility and affordability, saving families $141 per three-credit hour course.
