Tune in to Classic Hits KQNK tonight for live coverage of the Northern Valley Huskies Basketball team competing in the 1A Division II State Tournament at Barton Community College in Great Bend. Marvin Matchett and Shawn Harding will be providing the play-by-play commentary for the game.
The Huskies, seeded third in the tournament, will be going up against the sixth-seeded Lebo Wolves at 8 p.m. The Huskies have had a successful season so far, boasting a record of 21-2.
However, they suffered losses to Alma, Nebraska in February with a score of 56-51 in overtime, and to Hill City with a score of 73-60 right before sub-state. On the other hand, Lebo comes into the tournament with a record of 17-7, having faced defeats against various teams including Kansas City Christian, Central Heights, Olpe twice, West Franklin, Osage City, and Lyndon.
The tournament debut for the Northern Valley Girls is set for Thursday afternoon, with the game being aired on Classic Hits KQNK featuring Marvin Matchett and Shawn Harding as commentators. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Barton Community College.
The Northern Valley girls, seeded 8th, will be up against the top-seeded South Haven team, who boasts a record of 21-2. Leading the scoring for the Lady Huskies is senior Austyn Cox, averaging 13.1 points per game in her role as point guard. Meanwhile, sophomore Audrey Bina holds the highest field goal percentage on the team at 41 percent.
The South Haven Cardinals have had a successful season with a record of 21-2, their only losses occurring in December against Olpe and Norwich. Throughout the season, South Haven has managed to outscore their opponents by a significant margin, tallying 1,077 points compared to 722 points scored against them.
