NORTON COUNTY, Kan. — An injury accident late Friday night, October 17, 2025, on U.S. Highway 36, approximately 3.5 miles west of U.S. 283 near Norton, resulted in three people being transported to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

A resurfacing project on U.S. 283 in Norton County, managed by the Kansas Department of Transportation, involves a mill and overlay across 14 miles. Traffic will be limited to one lane, causing potential delays of up to 15 minutes. Completion is anticipated by the end of September, budgeted at $2.8 million.

On May 13, 2025, a vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup in Norton County, KS, led to a quick apprehension of a fleeing individual. The Norton County Sheriff's Office coordinated with the Kansas Highway Patrol, employing K-9 units and an aircraft, ensuring the subject was captured without incident. Sheriff Thomson praised all responders.
