Governor Laura Kelly declared a state of disaster due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains on June 3-4, particularly impacting northeast Kansas. Law enforcement in Atchison County is investigating a burglary at Progress Rail, which occurred early Sunday. Police arrested 36-year-old Keith D. Williams on Tuesday, who was already in custody for a separate warrant. A search warrant executed at his residence recovered most stolen items. The investigation continues.

A Topeka man, Michael J. Whitfield, was arrested for a violent robbery at an Atchison Walmart on May 18. He allegedly assaulted an employee to steal a cash bag without displaying a weapon. Whitfield, captured later by authorities, faces charges of robbery, theft, and battery, with a bond set at $100,000.

The Atchison Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 77-year-old Janice Buttron, who is missing. She was last seen on February 25 at her home near S 8th and Spruce Streets. Buttron, who has memory impairment, is 5'3" and was wearing jeans and a cream t-shirt. Please call 911 if spotted.
