MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Patrick Mahomes threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns, and Kenneth Walker III contributed a score on both the ground and through the air as the Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated with a 24-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
The Chiefs improved to 3-0 on the season, though they had to grind out the win against a resilient Miami squad. Kansas City entered the matchup averaging over 450 yards and 32 points per game, but struggled to pull away early.
Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes with one interception, connecting with Walker on a 5-yard touchdown pass before sealing the game with an 11-yard strike to Travis Kelce with 2:55 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rashee Rice paced the Chiefs’ receiving corps with seven catches for 88 yards, while Walker rushed for 70 yards on 18 carries.
The winless Dolphins (0-3) suffered a major blow on their opening drive when Pro Bowl running back De’Von Achane exited with a knee injury. With backup Jaylen Wright inactive due to a stinger, Miami turned to third-stringer Ollie Gordon, who rushed for 55 yards and a 3-year touchdown. Quarterback Malik Willis finished 20 of 36 for 210 yards with an interception and a lost fumble.
Miami’s defense managed to weather Kansas City’s early offensive onslaught—which included touchdowns on the Chiefs’ first two possessions—by forcing a turnover on downs and a diving interception by rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez before halftime. The Dolphins pulled within 14-10 in the third quarter following a 37-yard field goal by Riley Patterson, but failed to close the gap further down the stretch.
The Chiefs will hit the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders next Sunday.
