Nelson Velázquez and MJ Melendez both hit home runs and had two RBIs each, propelling the Kansas City Royals to a commanding 10-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night. The game took an exciting turn in the sixth inning when right fielder Hunter Renfroe threw out a potential tying run at home plate. However, it was in the seventh inning that Kansas City truly broke the game open, scoring eight runs.
Velázquez played a crucial role in the early stages of the game, driving in the first two runs with a single and a homer. Pitcher Seth Lugo, in his first win with the Royals, delivered an impressive performance, allowing only one run and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. The Royals’ starters have been consistently performing well, boasting an impressive 1.43 ERA.
In the sixth inning, Lugo gave up a run, ending the Royals’ scoreless streak of 25 innings. However, he managed to escape further damage with the help of Renfroe’s throw to home plate. The game took a decisive turn in the seventh inning when the Royals scored eight runs, thanks to a combination of walks, singles, and an error by the White Sox. MJ Melendez sealed the victory with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot.
