In the home opener at Kauffman Stadium, the Kansas City Royals suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Minnesota Twins, despite both teams hitting early home runs. The Royals’ third baseman, Maikel Garcia, managed to hit a home run in the club’s first at-bat of the season, leveling the game at one. However, this would be the only run scored by the Royals throughout the entire game.

Starting pitcher Cole Ragans, who took the mound on Opening Day, pitched a solid six innings but allowed eight baserunners. In the third inning, he gave up his second run of the day when Twins shortstop Carlos Correa hit a double, bringing in designated hitter Manuel Margot.
Following this, both teams struggled to score for the remainder of the game until the top of the ninth inning. It was during this inning that the Twins added two insurance runs before closer Griffin Jax entered the game to secure the victory.
After a day off on Friday, the two teams will resume their three-game series on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium.
