The City of Blue Rapids Thursday announced that the emergency sirens located at 600 Gypsum Street as well as the siren located at E. 6th Street have been deactivated due to their age and mechanical malfunctions, rendering them non-functional.
The Blue Rapids Public Works department recently conducted a comprehensive survey to verify that the two remaining sirens, located at the firehouse as well as 100 E. 9th Street, possess adequate coverage to effectively alert citizens in the event of an emergency.
It is crucial to note that emergency sirens are specifically designed to warn individuals who are outdoors and may not be audible inside homes or vehicles. For further details and additional information on this matter, it is recommended to contact the local emergency management offices.
