Leagues Cup schedule unveiled with Sporting KC to host Chicago Fire on July 28 and Toluca FC on Aug. 5

The Leagues Cup 2024 group stage schedule and knockout round bracket were revealed on Thursday for the second edition of the Concacaf-sanctioned competition that will feature all 47 clubs from MLS (29 teams) and LIGA MX (18 teams) in a World Cup-style club tournament from July 26-Aug. 25 with the top three teams qualifying for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Sporting Kansas City will host the Chicago Fire at 8 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 28 in the opening match for Group 4 of the West Region then host 10-time LIGA MX champions Deportivo Toluca FC at 8 p.m. CT on Monday, Aug. 5 in the group finale.

Tickets for both matches at Children’s Mercy Park are included in season ticket packages and will go on sale to the general public on March 28 via SeatGeek. Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Members interested in purchasing additional Leagues Cup group stage tickets, as well as ticket package buyers and newsletter subscribers, may also take advantage of a pre-sale opportunity beginning on March 25.

The winner of Sporting Kansas City’s group will meet the winner of Group 8 of the West Region – a group that features Atlas FC, Houston Dynamo FC and Real Salt Lake – in the Round of 32, while the runner-up will play reigning MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Aug. 8 at Lower.com Field in Ohio. During the group stage, each team receives three points for a win in regulation and one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes with an opportunity to earn a second point by prevailing in a penalty shootout.

Currently fifth in the Liga MX table with one loss through 11 matches in the Clausura campaign, two-time Concacaf champions Toluca are led by new head coach Renato Paiva and a trio of international attackers with Mexican Alexis Vega, Uruguayan Maximiliano Araujo and Chilean Jean Meneses. Toluca FC earned a 4-1 victory over Sporting in last year’s Leagues Cup Round of 32 to avenge a 5-0 loss on aggregate against SKC in the 2019 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.

Chicago Fire FC are led by manager Frank Klopas and assistant coach Paulo Nagamura, both former players in Kansas City with Klopas (1996-97) scoring in the club’s inaugural match and Nagamura (2012-16) lifting MLS Cup at Children’s Mercy Park in 2013. The Fire roster is headlined by 32-year-old playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri, who featured for Switzerland in the last four FIFA World Cups and has extensive European experience highlighted by Bundesliga and English Premier League titles, UEFA Champions League trophies and FIFA Club World Cup championships.

The Leagues Cup 2024 group stage kicks off on July 26 and runs through Aug. 6 with the top two teams in each group advancing to the single-elimination knockout rounds.

Fans in over 100 countries and regions – including Canada, Mexico and the United States – will be able to watch all 77 Leagues Cup matches on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app, the subscription service from Apple and Major League Soccer that is available on smart TVs, streaming devices, Apple devices, set-top boxes, game consoles, and the web at tv.apple.com. In addition, TelevisaUnivision, TV Azteca, FOX Sports, TSN and RDS will be the linear broadcast home for select Leagues Cup matches in the  United States, Mexico and Canada.
