The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has announced $249,018 in Fiscal Year 2027 Solid Waste Reduction Grants to 11 recipients, including municipalities and organizations. These grants, funded by a solid waste tonnage fee, support projects focused on recycling, composting, and public education in solid waste management.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrested Koby Allen Hoar, 25, from Topeka, on July 2, for two counts of child sexual exploitation. The investigation began from a cyber-tip, leading to a search warrant executed at his home where evidence was seized. Formal charges are pending, and the investigation continues.

The Kansas wheat harvest is 91 percent complete, surpassing last year's 78 percent and the five-year average of 74 percent. Weather challenges, including heavy rains and late spring freezes, affected crop quality and yields. Farmers reported varied results, with some yields ranging from 12 to 60 bushels per acre.
