Kansas Defeats Texas Tech 67-63 Tuesday To Clinch 21st Big 12 Conference Championship

Lawrence – The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 67-63 Tuesday night to claim their 21st Big 12 Conference Championship, and the schools 64th conference championship all-time.

Kansas was led in scoring by Jalen Wilson with 21, and Dajuan Harris with 16. Texas Tech’s leading scorer was De’Vion Harmon with 16, and Kevin Obanor with 14.

The Jayhawks shot 36.7 percent from the field in the first half, with a cold 4-17 from beyond the 3-point stripe. Texas Tech shot 31.3 percent overall in the first half and were only 1-11 from 3-point range. The halftime score was 30-21 Kansas.

The second half had Kansas warming up to 42.3 percent on 11-26 shooting. They only connected on 1 out of 6 shots from 3-point range. Texas Tech warmed up to 51.7 percent in the second half, on 15-29 shooting. They connected on 2 out of 5 from 3-point range. The difference in the game came down to free-throw shooting, with Kansas connecting on 18 of 22 opportunities, compared to 10-14 by the Red Raiders.

Kansas will close out the 2022-2023 regular season on Saturday with a trip to Austin to face Texas. Texas will face TCU on Wednesday evening and needs a win to stay in contention with Kansas to share the Big 12 conference regular season title.
