Out of this moment emerged progressive rock radio on FM\, where DJs—motivated more by passion than profit—favored artistic freedom over commercial concerns\, adopting a laid-back style that let the music breathe. Though the format was eventually overtaken by more commercial album-oriented rock as FM radio grew profitable\, its golden age from roughly 1968 to 1976 produced an extraordinary body of adventurous music.
