For the second straight season, the Lakeside Knights have claimed the KSHSAA Sand Green State Golf Championship. On their home course, the Knights won the title by 33 strokes over 2nd Place St. John's. Lakeside finished with a total of 301 to 334 for the Blujays. Tipton finished in 3rd Place with a score of 372. Zach Rose of Sylvan-Lucas had an outstanding day on the course, winning the individual state title, shooting a 5-under par 65. For the second straight season, all of Lakeside's golfers finished in the Top 9 or better. Cooper Brown and Kylan Cunningham, last year's individual champion, both shot a 2-over 72, tying for second. Rounding out the top 5 were William Rudolph of Sylvan-Lucas (4th, 76) and Jaret Eitzmann, St. John's (77). Terin Winkel and Tyler Schoen of Lakeside finished 6th and 7th followed by Cooper Jermark of St. John's in 8th, Reid Walsh from Lakeside in 9th and Ben Thompson of St. John's in 10th. For Lakeside, this was their fourth State Sand Greens title in school history, winning in 2004 and 2006 along with last season's championship. Area athletes competed at KSHSAA Regional Golf meets on Monday. Many area athletes and teams have qualified for next week's State Golf Tournaments. The highlight of the day was at 2A in Salina as Sacred Heart won the team title by 76 strokes over St. Marys. The Knights had the top five individual finshers in the meet, led by Regional Champion Michael Matteucci with a 71. Also at 2A in Salina, Smith Center qualified their whole team for State, which will be next Monday and Tuesday in Emporia. Trey Melton of Republic County also qualified individually. At 1A at Washington County, Grady Wolters of Osborne qualified for State, which will take place next week in Hesston. In 3A at Larned, Beloit's Caleb Burks finished 6th place and qualified for the State Meet in Salina next week. Full results from Regional Golf can be found at the link below.
KSHSAA Regional Golf Assignments
Sand Greens teams in Kansas do not have Regional Tournaments as they qualify for state based on marks throughout the season. Many area team were at the Riley County meet on Monday, though. Results are below.
