Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids, and graduated from Valley Heights High School in May of 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. After stops at KFRM and KCLY radio in Clay Center, he joined KNDY in 2002 as a board operator and play by play announcer. Derek is now responsible for the digital content of Dierking Communications, Inc. six radio stations. In 2005 Derek joined the staff of KCFX radio in Kansas City as a production coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, which airs on over 94 radio stations across 12 Midwest states and growing. In 2018 he became the Studio Coordinator at the Cumulus Kansas City broadcast center for Kansas City Chiefs Football.

The Royals Radio Network will broadcast all of the Kansas City Royals regular season games in 2019. Catch all the evening and weekend games LIVE on Classic Hits KQNK AM 1530/FM 106.7.

The Royals Radio Network is the largest network in the American League in seven states across the Midwest. Royals Hall of Famer and 2007 Ford C. Frick Award winner Denny Matthews will be behind the microphone for his 51st season. Veteran announcer Steve Physioc returns for his 8th season as a part of the Royals broadcast team on both radio and television while Steve Stewart returns for his 12th season with the club. Ryan Lefebvre will also broadcast games on the Royals Radio Network in 2018 when he is not on FOX Sports Kansas City.
