Commissioner Charles Posson called the meeting of the Norton Co Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 AM on July 30, 2018 at the Commission Room. Attendance: Richard Thompson, Present: Charles Posson, Present: Thomas Brannan , Present.

July Vouchers & Payroll
The July 2018 vouchers and payroll were submitted to the commission and county counselor for review and approval. The vouchers and payroll were approved and signed as submitted.

Gina Frack, Norton County Hospital
Gina Frack, Norton County Hospital Administrator was present at the commissions request to discuss collections. The commission has been receiving numerous calls from patients that have been turned over to the collection agencies. The collection agency has been using the County Commission name on the legal documents as Commissioners of Norton County, dba Norton County Hospital. Gina stated that she was unaware of the Commissioners title being on the documents and will check with the CFO to see if anything could be changed. If not, Gina stated that some public education would be necessary.

July 23rd Minutes
A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to approve the minutes from the July 23rd meeting with a second from Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.

Road Department
Floyd Richard, Norton County Road department delivered information to the commission on grass drills. The Road department is looking at grass drills to seed road ditches after construction work. Two options for consideration were presented to the commission with a different style of agitators than the previous model purchased. After discussion the commission and Floyd felt that purchasing a broadcaster would be the best option.

There being no further business before the Board the meeting was adjourned until 8/6/2018. The commission minutes are not considered official until signed and approved by the commission and will remain a working document until approved.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2020 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
