Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 5/21/18

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with David E. Baier, Chairman, Robert S. Connell and Lynn Feldhausen members and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

Steve Boyda, Marysville was present to observe the meeting.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Lynn Feldhausen. Unanimous.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Elizabeth M. Olson, Attorney, Hiawatha, KS
for contract attorney
$1,440.00-General (District Court) fund-P.O. # 5667

Frontier Forensics, Nashville, TN
for autopsy
$1,550.00-General (Coroner) fund-P.O. # 5666

Neofunds, Tampa, FL
for postage
$4,000.00-General (Commissioners) fund-P.O. # 5665

Slup’s Repair, Marysville, KS
for tires
$833.15-KDOT fund-P.O. # 5395

Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging, Hiawatha, KS

$2,164.00-Agency on Aging fund-P.O. # 5396

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the vouchers, as presented, and issue manual warrants from the respective funds. Unanimous.
Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase order. Unanimous.

for labor to reseal dump cylinder

Midland Exteriors, Manhattan, KS
for labor and material to replace guttering on Courthouse

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to go into executive session for ten minutes at 9:02 a.m. to discuss matters of non-elected personnel with County Clerk Sonya L. Stohs present. Unanimous.

County Clerk Sonya L. Stohs informed the Board that Angie Fredrickson has resigned from the County Clerk’s Office as of May 31, 2018.

County Counselor Jason Brinegar met with the Board. David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to go into executive session for ten minutes at 9:18 a.m. to discuss matters of attorney client privilege with County Counselor Jason Brinegar present. Unanimous. No action taken as a result of the executive session.

County Health Nurse Sue Rhodes met with the Board to discuss the immunization refrigerator not working well and it is not worth fixing. She presented the following bids for a new refrigerator.

Ott Electric, Marysville – Frigidaire All Refrigerator – $789.00
Dave’s Hardware, Axtell – Danby All Refrigerator – $850.00

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the low bid from Ott Electric, Marysville for the Frigidaire All Refrigerator in the amount of $789.00. Unanimous.

County Health Nurse Sue Rhodes also reported to the Board that the dehumidifier in the basement of the Courthouse is not working she is going to get bids on a new industrial dehumidifier from Dave’s Hardware, Ott Electric and Global Industries and return next week with those bids.

County Health Nurse Sue Rhodes also discussed the need to purchase new lobby and exam room chairs due to the current chairs needing replaced. The following bids for chairs were given:

2 exam room chairs at $69.00 a piece, one double chair for the lobby at $230.00,
2 oversize chairs for the lobby at $139.00 and 15 lobby chairs at $59.00 each

The exam room chairs and 15 waiting room chairs will be purchased from OfficeMax and the double chair and 2 oversize chairs will be purchased from Amazon.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the purchase of he office chairs for the Health Department to not exceed $1,400.00 for the regular waiting room chairs excluding the oversized chairs and to purchase 2 exam room chairs. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to adjourn at 9:48 a.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, May 29, 2018 starting at 8:30 a.m.

The County Offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2018 to observe Memorial Day.

Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
