Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 5/14/18

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with David E. Baier, Chairman, Robert S. Connell member and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

Commissioner Feldhausen was absent from the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Robert S. Connell. Motion carried.

County Attorney Laura Johnson-McNish met with the Board to ask to hire Haley Bruna, Marysville for 4-6 weeks starting next week at $15.11 an hour. She is top of her class and is going into the medical field. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the hiring of Haley Bruna, Marysville starting May 21, 2018 for 4 to 6 weeks at $15.11 an hour. Motion carried.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Motion carried.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to go into executive session for five minutes at 11:27 an hour to discuss matters of non-elected personnel with Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson present. Motion carried. Public Works Administrator Mike Craig recommended the hiring of Skyler Ballman, Marysville as Laborer, Probation at $15.40 an hour effective May 14, 2018. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the hiring of Skyler Ballman, Marysville as Laborer, Probation at $15.40 an hour effective May 14, 2018. Motion carried.
Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the vouchers, as presented, and issue warrants from the respective funds. Motion carried.
Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the Home Sewer bills and pay them from the appropriate funds available. Motion carried.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to adjourn at 12:00 p.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, May 21, 2018 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
