Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 3/26/18

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with David E. Baier, Chairman, Robert S. Connell and Lynn Feldhausen member and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Lynn Feldhausen. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the following purchase order. Unanimous.

Cross Dillon Tire, Lincoln, NE
for loader tires
$1,693.49-Road & Bridge fund-P.O. # 108780

County Attorney Laura Johnson-McNish met with the Board.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig informed the Board that KDOT is replacing a culvert on Hwy 99 ½ mile east of Beattie and they want to use the Axtell blacktop as a detour. No action has been taken at this time.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to go into executive session for five minutes at 9:13 a.m. to discuss matters of non-elected personnel with Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson present. Unanimous. No action taken as a result of the executive session.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the Neighborhood Revitalization application for Larry Shum, Marysville, KS with the preconstruction pictures that were provided by the applicant. Unanimous.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve signing the Contract for Professional Services with Meghan Voracek, Attorney. Unanimous.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Allied Techinal Consultants, Hays, KS
for mapping maintenance
$2,500.00-911 Local fund-P.O. # 5520

Brown County Treasurer, Hiawatha, KS
for share of 4-County budget
$591.70-General (District Court) fund-P.O. # 5580

Elizabeth M. Olson, Attorney, Hiawatha, KS
for contract attorney fee
$1,440.00-General (District Court) fund-P.O. # 5581

Register of Deeds Martha Roesch met with the Board to inform them that she wants to hire Susan Stultz, Marysville, KS at $15.34 an hour as the part-time employee in the Register of Deeds office effective March 26, 2018. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the hiring of Susan Stultz, Marysville, KS at $15.34 an hour as the part-time employee in the Register of Deeds office effective March 26, 2018. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to go into executive session for fifteen minutes at 9:32 a.m. to discuss matters of attorney client privilege with County Counselor Jason Brinegar present. No action was taken as a result of the executive session.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the County’s share of payrolls and related vouchers, as presented, processed the motor vehicle payroll and issued manual warrants from the respective funds. Unanimous.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 9:51 a.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, April 2, 2018 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
