Commissioner Charles Posson called the meeting of the Norton Co Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 AM on February 28, 2018 at the Commission Room. Attendance: Richard Thompson, Present: Charles Posson, Present: Thomas Brannan, Present.

February Vouchers and payroll
The February vouchers and payroll were submitted to the county counselor and county commission for review and approval. Upon review, the vouchers and payroll were signed and approved by the counselor and commission as submitted.

NW Ks Planning Commission/Development
Discussion was held on the appointment of a Norton County representative to the NW Kansas Pioneer Development Board. A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to appoint Carolyn Applegate to the board with a second from Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.

February 19th minutes
A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to approve the minutes from the February 19th commission meeting. the motion was given a second from Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.

Resolution 2018-04
A Charter Resolution exempting Norton County, Kansas from the Provision of K.S.A. 79-240 IA relating to the redemption of real estate bid off by County; partial redemption, period of redemption, interest, foreclosure on expiration of period, and providing substitute and additional provisions on the same subjects was reviewed by the commission. County Counselor R. Douglas Sebelius gave the commission history and input on the Charter Resolution and the benefits of the passage. A motion was made by Commissioner Thompson to adopt Resolution 2018-04 with a second from Commissioner Brannan. Motion passed 3-0.

Adjournment
There being no further business before the Board the meeting was adjourned until 3/12/2018. The commission minutes are not considered to be official until signed and approved by the commission and will remain a working document until approved.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
