Nemaha County Commission Meeting Minutes – 2/20/18

The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in the Commissioner’s Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dennis Henry leading the flag salute. Present also were Commissioners Gary Scoby and Tim Burdiek, Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum and Office Manager Kathy Haverkamp, and Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes.

Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Report:

Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum advised the board that:
• all of the trucks were sent out this morning that were available.
• he received steel bids for Commissioners to open and review. Oden Enterprises, Inc. bid
$50,655.84 for sheet piling, $20,382.32 for H-piling, and submitted no bid for miscellaneous structural steel; Midwest Service and Sales Co. submitted no bid for sheet piling, bid $23,433.00 for H-piling, and $47,175.71 for miscellaneous structural steel; Husker Steel bid $53,830.00 for sheet piling, $22,134.00 for H-piling, and $51,873.00 for miscellaneous structural steel; The Railroad Yard, Inc. bid $55,720.00 for sheet piling,
$23,688.00 for H-piling, and $45,347.11 for miscellaneous structural steel. Commissioners made no decision regarding these bids at this time.

The board reviewed vouchers submitted by the different departments that were paid the middle of February.

The board reviewed the minutes from the February 12, 2018 meeting. Gary Scoby moved to approve the minutes as presented. Tim Burdiek seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Chairman Dennis Henry signed add/abate orders as presented.

Appraiser Betty Roeder came before the board. She let Commissioners know that the new vehicle that was recently purchased for her office is in. Commissioners will speak to Senior Services/Public Transit Director Diane Yunghans about writing up a voucher to transfer ownership of the old Appraiser vehicle (a 2012 Dodge Journey) from the Appraiser’s Office to the Meals on Wheels Program.

Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum came back before the board to discuss the steel bids opened earlier this morning during today’s meeting. Tim Burdiek moved to approve the bid from Oden Enterprises, Inc. for sheet piling at a cost of $50,655.84, the bid from Oden Enterprises, Inc. for H-piling at a cost of $20,382.32, and the bid from The Railroad Yard, Inc. for miscellaneous structural steel at a cost of $45,347.11. Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Jane Sunderland with Nemaha County Community Health Services came before the board to let Commissioners know that she plans to apply again for the Formula Grant through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Chairman Dennis Henry signed a cover letter to be submitted with the grant application as presented.

District Court Clerk Amy Boeckman came before the board to talk to Commissioners about the purchase of two new laptops and a new firewall for her office. Following discussion, Gary Scoby moved to approve the purchase of a managed firewall system with Networks Plus in the amount of $479.00 for the first month and $229.00 for each month thereafter. Tim Burdiek seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye. Tim Burdiek moved to approve the purchase of two new laptop computers from Networks Plus in the amount of $2,552.00.
Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Senior Services/Public Transit Director Diane Yunghans came before the board to speak to Commissioners about the purchase of the 2012 Dodge Journey from the Appraiser’s Office. Following discussion, it was decided that the vehicle would be purchased from the Appraiser’s Office at a cost of $10,000 for use by the Meals on Wheels Program in Diane’s department.

County Attorney Brad Lippert came before the board. Commissioners had no county business to discuss with Brad at this time.

With no further county business coming before the board, Chairman Dennis Henry adjourned the meeting at 12:45 pm. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 9:00 am.

In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
