Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 1/16/18

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourned session with David E. Baier, Chairman, Robert S. Connell member and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

Commissioner Feldhausen was absent from the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by Robert S. Connell seconded by David E. Baier. Motion carried.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to go into executive session for five minutes at 8:52 a.m. to discuss matters of nonelected personnel to assure compliance with policies and laws with Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson present. Motion carried. No action was taken as a result of the session.
Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the Home Sewer bills and pay them from the appropriate funds available. Motion carried.
Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Motion carried.
Kansas Secretary State, Topeka, KS
for Elvis annual cost
$2,500.00-Election fund-P.O. # 5547

Washington County Sheriff, Washington, KS
for inmate housing
$11,280.00-Sheriff Reserve fund-P.O. # 5539

Nelson Power and Light, Marysville, KS
for electrical work
$10,620.88-Sheriff Reserve fund-P.O. # 5538

Marysville Advocate Publisher Sarah Kessinger met with the Board to discuss the Marysville Advocate not being reappointed as the Official County newspaper. She presented information on having a high circulated paper as the Official County newspaper. The Board took no action at this time.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the vouchers, as presented, and issue manual warrants from the respective funds. Motion carried.

Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave met with the Board to ask for a step raise for Jaime Roeder, Blue Rapids from Communications Operator at $15.32 an hour to Communication Operator at $15.57 an hour effective February 1, 2018. Motion carried.
David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to adjourn at 10:00 a.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, January 22, 2018 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2020 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.

Public Input Sought On Water Injection Dredging Study at Tuttle Creek Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public input on a draft environmental assessment for the Water Injection Dredging Study at Tuttle Creek Lake. A public meeting is scheduled for April 18, 2024, in Manhattan, KS. The project aims to address sedimentation issues and restore the reservoir's storage capacity using innovative water injection dredging technology.

Cloud County Community College's Theatre Department presents "The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong" on April 25-27 at Cook Theatre. Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets cost $5, free for CCCC students.
