Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 1/2/18

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular session with Robert S. Connell, Chairman, Lynn Feldhausen and David E. Baier members and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Lynn Feldhausen. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase order. Unanimous.

for tires
$789.60-Road & Bridge fund-P.O. # 108757

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve Public Works Administrator Mike Craig signing a proposal to have Schwab Eaton provide the engineering services for inspection and repair of the north abutment of a bridge located between Sections 15 and 16 of Waterville Township on 4th Road just south of Temple Rd.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the vouchers, as presented, and to issue manual warrants from the respective fund. Unanimous.
David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve April Todd, Marysville as the regular board member for Marshall County to fill the vacancy on the Pawnee Mental Health Board. Unanimous.

Robin Rose, Marysville met with the Board have concerns about the lack of prosecution of criminal cases.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig met with the Board to discuss the purchase of a ripper for the track loader at the Landfill. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve a used ripper for a track loader at the Landfill. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

$6,000.00-Solid Waste fund-P.O. # 108762

Partnership for Growth representative Ellen Barber met with the Board.

Marshall County Health Nurse Sue Rhodes met with the Board to give a monthly update.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 10:09 a.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, January 8, 2018 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
