Gov. Brownback To Visit Beloit On Tuesday

Governor Sam Brownback will be traveling to Beloit to visit St. John’s Catholic School on Tuesday. The Governor plans to tour the school, meet the faculty and administration, eat lunch with the students, and sit in on few classes to see how things are done at St. John’s.

In 2016, St. John’s was 1 of 11 Kansas schools to be named a Kansas Department of Education Governor’s Award Winner. This award honors the top performing academic schools in the state. The Governor’s Award selects only the top 2 percent of 474 high schools across the state.

The Governor’s schedule in Beloit tomorrow is as follows below.

11:20 AM – Arrive at Church (612 E. Court)
11:30 AM – Intro and tour of St. John’s Catholic Church
12:10 PM – Lunch with HS students
12:40 PM – Talk to students and faculty at St. John’s High School – Public is welcome
1:30 PM – Recite decade of the Rosary with student body
1:45 PM – Tour of Grade & High Schools
2:15 PM – Conversion Story for anybody that is available (Cafeteria)
2:45 PM – Departure

Derek Nester
Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
