Commissioner Charles Posson called the meeting of the Norton Co Board of Commissioners to order at 9:00 AM on December 1 i 2017 at the Commission Room. Attendance: Richard Thompson, Present: Charles Posson, Present: Thomas Brannan, Present.

Added Tax Statements
Two added tax statements were presented to the commission for signature and approval Added statement numbers #2017000105 and #2017000110 were presented for property that was failed to be filed by the owner. The total of the added statements was $312.94. The statements were approved and signed.

County Treasurer
Vicki Bainter, Norton County Treasurer was in to visit with the commission about replacement of the printer/copier in her office. The bid was submitted from Eakes Office Supply in the amount $7,775.33. After discussion the commission approved the purchase of the machine. A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to approve the purchase of the copier/printer with a second from Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.
Vicki spoke with the commission about closing the office on December 29th. Vicki stated that the office generally closes on the 29th at noon, however would appreciate the closing in the morning to complete end of the year transactions. The commission approved the request.

Tax Abatement Statements
The commission reviewed three abatement statements for property that was sold or and failed to file or exempt. Tax abatement #201700011 i #2017000114 and #2017000115 were reviewed and approved as submitted. The total of the abatements was $661.82.

Tax Abatement Statement
Tax Abatement #2017000149 was submitted to the commission for approval. The statement was issued for clerical error on a mobile home. Statement #2017000149 was approved and signed by the commission in the amount of $115.72.

November 27th, Minutes
A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to approve the minutes from November 27th, 2017. The motion was given a second by Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.

November 30th Minutes
A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to approve the minutes from November 30th, 2017 commission meeting. The motion was given a second from Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed 3-0.

Holiday Schedule
A motion was made by Commissioner Thompson to approve the2018 Holiday schedule as submitted. The motion was given a second from Commissioner Brannan. Motion passed 3-0.

BG Consultants
Moni G. El-Aasar, BG Consultants along with Floyd Richard and Becky Wilson were in to discuss the application to the State for high risk traffic areas. Moni stated that the State will have some funding available this year for the high risk area/road. The County has identified West Washington road as a high risk road due to the visibility and the narrow passage. The application would outline lowing the road for visibility as well as increasing the width of the road. The county will submit letter with the application from EMS, Sheriff’s department and other local law enforcement.
A motion was made by Commissioner Brannan to have BG Consultants do the application for the State of Kansas High Risk funding. The motion was given a second by Commissioner Thompson. Motion passed

Moni stated that he will prepare the application for the County with no fee. The application if approved would be 90% funded by the State and 10% funding from the County.

Adjournment
There being no further business before the Board the meeting was adjourned until 12/18/2017. The commission minutes are not considered official until signed and approved by the commission and will remain a working document until approved.

Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2020 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.

Public Input Sought On Water Injection Dredging Study at Tuttle Creek Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public input on a draft environmental assessment for the Water Injection Dredging Study at Tuttle Creek Lake. A public meeting is scheduled for April 18, 2024, in Manhattan, KS. The project aims to address sedimentation issues and restore the reservoir's storage capacity using innovative water injection dredging technology.

Beloit USD 273 Bond Issue Questions Defeated In Election

The Beloit USD 273 School Bond vote concluded with Question 1 for facility improvements at $16.2 million and Question 2 for additional upgrades at $3.8 million. Unofficial results show Question 1 received 823 "Yes" (37%) and 1,425 "No" (63%) votes, while Question 2 received 644 "Yes" (29%) and 1,597 "No" (71%) votes.
