The Jewell County Commissioners met December 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with Commissioners, Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe present. Carla J. Waugh, County Clerk, was present for the meeting.
Travis Garst, Solid Waste Director, reviewed the monthly activity report for November with a total of 1,899 visitors for the month.
Joe Cannia discussed his concerns with the requirements for a Veteran’s license plate. Brenda Eakins, Treasurer, reviewed the memo from the State detailing the requirements.
Carla Waugh reviewed the 2018 Commissioner Meeting dates with one change being made in November for canvassing the general election. The meeting dates were approved. Carla also reviewed the 2018 Designated Holidays for County Employees. Keith Roe moved to approve the Jewell County Holiday schedule for 2018. Steve Greene seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Gail Bartley, Weed Director, Emergency Preparedness Director and 911 Coordinator, discussed the LEPC meeting scheduled for December 13th at 7:00 p.m. He discussed communications between fire departments.
Don Jacobs, Sheriff, reviewed the letter from KCAMP stating that the Risk Avoidance Grant application was approved and a $2000 check was enclosed. Don Jacobs requested an executive session for 5 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel.
Steve Greene moved and Keith Roe seconded the motion to go into executive session for 5 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel beginning at 9:15 a.m. with Don Jacobs and Carla Waugh. Motion passed unanimously. Regular session resumed at 9:20 a.m. with no action taken.
Anna Porter, County Appraiser, discussed notices to be sent out.
The minutes of the November 27, 2017 County Commissioners meeting were approved.
Mary Ann Meier, Health Department, asked several questions about operations.
Darrell Miller, County Attorney, discussed property owned by the County.
Jack Tyler, Bridge Superintendent, reported on projects.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
The Commissioners and County Clerk attended the Multi-County meeting at the Smith County Courthouse meeting room. Smith County hosted the Multi-County meeting with Jewell, Mitchell and Osborne Counties present. The group discussed the following topics: Election, Solid Waste operations, Solid Waste fees, courthouse maintenance and IT personnel for the County. Jewell County will be the host county for the next Multi-County Meeting on March 5th.
