Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 11/20/17

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular adjourn session with Robert S. Connell, Chairman, Lynn Feldhausen and David E. Baier members and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

The Board called the Board of County Commissioner meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Robert S. Connell. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

County Sanitarian Marlene Stamm met with the Board to give them a quarterly update.

Bryan Kracht, Marysville met with the Board to ask for a sixth month extension on his Neighborhood Revitalization application. Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve a six-month extension for the Bryan Kracht, Marysville Neighborhood Revitalization application. Unanimous.

Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave met with the Board to recommend a step increase for Corrections Officer Eric Bohlken from Corrections Officer, 4 years at 16.57 an hour to Corrections Officer, 5 years at $17.07 an hour; Cook Mary Juneneman, Hanover from Food Service, 1 year at $14.57 an hour to Food Service, 2 year at $14.82 an hour; Deputy Sheriff Fernando Salcedo, Marysville from Deputy Sheriff, 7 year at $19.31 an hour to Deputy Sheriff, 10 year at $20.06 an hour; and Deputy Sheriff Corey Woodyard, Blue Rapids from Deputy Sheriff at $17.81 an hour to Deputy Sheriff at $18.06 an hour effective December 1, 2017. David E. Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave discussed with the Board advertising for a Jail Administrator. David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve Sheriff Hargrave advertising for a Jail Administrator to start effective January 1, 2017. Unanimous.

County Treasurer Jami Ellenbecker met with the Board to discuss a Resolution for Motor Vehicle money and a Resolution to remove dormant delinquent tax that is 20 years old from the tax roll.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to go into executive session for five minutes at 10:15 a.m. to discuss matters of nonelected personnel to assure compliance with policies and laws. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to appoint a new County Counselor which is currently County Attorney/Counselor Laura Johnson McNish effective December 1, 2017 and to separate the County Attorney and County Counselor budgets in the General Fund for budget year 2018. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to sign a contract with Attorney Jason Brinegar of Galloway, Wiegers and Brinegar Law Firm to be the County Counselor for Marshall County effective December 1, 2017. Unanimous.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to set the County Counselor budget at $55,500.00 and the County Attorney budget at $147,050.00 for budget year 2018. Unanimous.

The Board received a letter from the Corp of Engineers to inform them of a December 5th meeting to discuss the Tuttle Creek Reservoir and the camping areas.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 10:41 a.m. Unanimous. The next schedule meeting will be Monday, November 27, 2017 starting at 8:30 a.m.

In 2020 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.

USDA Funds Clean Energy and Domestic Biofuels to Strengthen Small Businesses in Kansas

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has allocated over $5.3 million for seven clean energy projects in Kansas, aimed at reducing energy bills, increasing access to biofuels, and creating job opportunities. These projects include solar arrays and energy-efficient equipment installations, expected to benefit farms, small businesses, and rural communities. The initiative falls under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP), both accepting applications until September 30, 2024.

Manhattan Woman Injured in Overnight Shooting

A 20-year-old female was shot in Manhattan on April 23, 2024. She was taken to the hospital, and her condition is unknown. The police are investigating, and anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously for a potential reward of $1,000.
