Cloud County Theatre Department Presenting Christmas Musical

Cloud County Community College’s theatre department will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” November 30 – December 3 at Concordia’s Brown Grand Theatre.

The musical follows the saga of the Herdmans, the worst kids in the history of the world, as they crash Sunday school and demand parts in the Christmas pageant. The whole town panics, because there aren’t supposed to be fighting or cigar-smoking in Bethlehem. Soon, everyone from the terrified pint-sized shepherd to the furious church ladies, are calling for first-time director Grace to cancel the show. But it’s up to her and the Reverend to help their community see the Christmas story and the Herdman kids through new eyes in the musical adaptation of the funny and touching holiday classic.

The cast includes:
The Bradleys – Grace, Rachael Wood, Washington, Kan.; Bob, Westin Maish, Jamestown; Charlie, Chase Finch, Brookville; and Beth, Raven, Roberson, Greenleaf, Kan.

The Herdmans – Imogene, Alexis Johnson, Belleville; Claude, Benjamin Jacques, Mahaska, Kan.; Ralph, Marcel De Almeida, Sao Paulo, Brazil; Leroy, Tanner Earll, Odessa, Neb.; Gladys, Emily Feldkamp, Seneca; and Ollie, Jessica Darnell, Tipton, Kan.

The Church People – Reverend, Zach Wohlbrandt, Courtland, Kan.; and Helen, Cole Gillman-Goss, Wakeeney.

The Church Ladies – Connie, Raven Turner, Miltonvale, Kan.; Luanne, Taylor Holte, Mayetta, Kan.; and Betty, Rose Stokes, Cimarron, Kan.

Kids – Teddy, Caroline Elstrom, Concordia, Kan.; Alice, Rose Stokes, Cimarron, Kan.; Elmer, Zach Wohlbrandt, Courtland, Kan.; Ivy, Madison Troshynski, Wilber, Neb.; and Ingrid, Zoe Brichalli, Concordia.

The musical is based on the children’s classic by Barbara Robinson, with book and lyrics by Jahanna Beecham and music and lyrics by Malcolm Hillgartner. The performance is directed by CCCC’s Stephanie Tschetter, instructor of English, Speech and Theatre. Tickets will be available at the door for $5.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
