Marshall County Commission Meeting Minutes – 11/6/17

The Board of Marshall County Commissioners met in regular session with Robert S. Connell, Chairman, David E. Baier and Lynn Feldhausen members and Sonya L. Stohs, County Clerk present.

The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m.

The Board opened the meeting with the flag salute.

The minutes and agenda were approved as presented upon a motion by David E. Baier seconded by Robert S. Connell. Unanimous.

Public Works Administrator Mike Craig and Public Works Coordinating Supervisor Larry Polson met with the Board.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Legacy Cleaning, Co., Marysville, KS
for polyurethane spray foam install Marysville Shop
$7,535.00-Road & Bridge fund-P.O. # 108728

The Board received a letter from Olsson and Associates; Lincoln, NE that the final walk through has been done on the Tumbleweed Road improvement project.

Lynn Feldhausen moved, seconded by David E. Baier to approve the Home Sewer bills and pay them from the appropriate funds available. Unanimous.

David E. Baier moved, seconded by Robert S. Connell to approve the following purchase orders. Unanimous.

Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave met with the Board. David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to go into executive session for ten minutes at 9:23 a.m. to discuss matters of nonelected personnel to assure compliance with policies and laws and attorney client privilege with Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave present. Unanimous. No action was taken as a result of the session.

Sheriff Daniel A. Hargrave recommended the hiring of Mike Vermetten, Waterville as a Deputy Sheriff at $18.06 an hour effective November 1, 2017. David E. Baier moved, seconded by Lynn Feldhausen to approve the hiring of Mike Vermetten, Waterville as a Deputy Sheriff at $18.06 an hour effective November 1, 2017. Unanimous.

County Health Nurse Sue Rhodes met with the Board.

Robert S. Connell moved, seconded by David E. Baier to adjourn at 9:44 a.m. Unanimous. The next scheduled meeting will be Monday, November 13, 2017 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
