Highway Overlay Project To Begin In Mitchell And Jewell Counties

The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a 39 mile overlay project on K-128 beginning at the junction of U.S. 24 and K-128, continuing north through Jewell County to the Kansas/Nebraska state line.

Work is set to begin on August 4 with a completion date of October 20 weather permitting. Traffic will be carried through construction via flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours, with a lane width restriction of 11 feet.

Venture Corporation of Great Bend, KS is the prime contractor and the cost of the project is $2,518,103.30

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
