USD 498 Approves Increase In LOB; Contracts At Special Board Meeting

Minutes of the Board of Education
August 1, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.

All posted Board of Education minutes are unofficial until approved at the succeeding regular BOE meeting.

The Board of Education of Valley Heights School District No. 498 held a Special meeting on Monday, August 1, 2017, at 8:30 a.m., in the District Office. Board President David Vermetten called the Special meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Board Members Present: David Vermetten, President; Mike Vermetten, Chris McNary, Melva Sanner and Theresa Minihan.

Others Present: John Bergkamp and Teresa Penning, Clerk.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
It was moved by Chris McNary and seconded by Theresa Minihan to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 5-0.

Negotiated Agreement
Chris McNary moved, seconded by Melva Sanner to approve the Negotiated Agreement as presented. Motion carried 5-0.

Non-Certified Contract
Chris McNary moved, seconded by Mike Vermetten to approve Nicole Stoudt as Title I para/Library Aide. Motion carried 5-0.

Non-Certified and Administrative Salaries
Chris McNary moved, seconded by Mike Vermetten to increase the Non-certified and Administrative Salaries by 1%. Motion carried 4-1.

Resolution to adopt 33% LOB
David Vermetten moved, seconded by Mike Vermetten to approve and publish the Resolution to increase the LOB to 33%. Motion carried 4-1.

ADJOURNMENT
Melva Sanner moved, seconded by David Vermetten to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.

Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids and graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communications. In 2002 Derek joined Taylor Communications, Inc. in Salina, Kansas working in digital media for 550 AM KFRM and 100.9 FM KCLY. Following that stop, he joined Dierking Communications, Inc. stations KNDY AM & FM as a board operator and fill-in sports play-by-play announcer. Starting in 2005 Derek joined the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network as a Studio Coordinator at 101 The Fox in Kansas City, a role he would serve for 15 years culminating in the Super Bowl LIV Championship game broadcast. In 2021 he moved to Audacy, formerly known as Entercom Communications, Inc. and 106.5 The Wolf and 610 Sports Radio, the new flagship stations of the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the largest radio network in the NFL. Through all of this, Derek continues to serve as the Digital Media Director for Sunflower State Radio, the digital and social media operations of Dierking Communications, Inc. and the 6 radio stations it owns and operates across Kansas.
